Krishna Jayanthi or Krishna Janmashtami is the birthday of Lord Krishna, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He was born on the midnight of the eighth day of Hindu lunar calendar in the month of Shravana or Tamil month Avani (mid August to mid September). As the Bhagavad Gita says, the lord will appear whenever there is dominance of evil to annihilate it and uphold unity, faith and righteousness. The day celebrates togetherness of people and establishes close bonding within the family and society at large. He encourages devotees to follow the path of truth by loving and living to the fullest.
Lord Krishna, the architect of the Bhagavad Gita is considered a Supreme Being. He is the eighth and most powerful incarnation of Lord Vishnu and was born to annihilate Kamsa, his uncle, and also to free the world of evil. His role in the Mahabharata was noteworthy. He stressed the importance of Bhakti and Karma which have found a special place in the great epic Bhagavad Gita.
Goddess Mahakali, the feminine form of Lord Shiva made her appearance to kill demons Madhu and Kaitambh on Phalgun Shukla Dwadashi. It’s the day when the goddess appeared in front of Lord Brahma from the organs of Lord Shiva such as eyes, face, nose and arms to destroy the fiercest enemy. Therefore, the couple manifest as Ardhanarishwar, a supreme indomitable force that are creators of the universe.

According to Vedic scholars, mantra siddhi is attained when the mantra is recited 500,000 times, and at the conclusion of the japa, a Homam and a shodasa upacara puja with 50,000 mantra offerings are made. The Sadhak should wear a mala made of black Tulsi beads.
It is believed that Lord Mahadeva disclosed this prayer to Bhrigu taken from the Brahma Vaivarta Puranam, Ganapati Khanda and Chapter 32. The brief phalashruti at the end of the mantra says that the one who recites this prayer thrice a day becomes hightly revered as Lord Vishnu and gets the benefit of wealth, health, wisdom, progeny, etc. therefore, the hymn is considered very sacred.
In totality, the mantra has 5 stanzas each describing various aspects of life and its importance.

Sri Venu Gopalaswamy energy centre is situated in Gopalapuram in Chennai, in the state of Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna, the temple’s principal altar houses an exquisite idol of Lord Krishna playing the flute, and therefore Venugopala, the cowherd with a flute. The ‘utsava murthy’ or processional idol is also found in the main temple.
