Goddess Shakti — the Source of Origin of All Living Beings

Soundarya Lahari Homam

As the verses of Soundarya Lahari describe the Devi’s beauty from head to toe, Adi Shankara’s observations of the mother give knowledge, strength and a sense of accomplishment. He has also laid down the path of bhakti as a means of salvation through Jnana. Shakti is vital for creation, preservation, destruction and rejuvenation. Her mere glance can breathe life and energy into lifeless dust particles for she is the source from which all beings have emanated. While it’s Vedicfolks’ endeavour to worship nine mantras and their corresponding yantras, this being our seventh series, verses 55 to 63 will be venerated. Awakening the Shakti within each and every one is one of the most important goal of Soundarya Lahari worship. The mantras and yantras act as tools for attaining worldly pleasures and spiritual accomplishments. It gives immediate results to the devotees. As the shlokas are chanted, placing the goddess in the heart region allows the practitioner to superimpose the divine mother on his or her jeevatma or soul to allow the Devi to take over. There can be no better adoration of the goddess than that.

Adi Shankara in a veiled reference says that the goddess is Jaagrat Swarupa which means she is always in a state of consciousness. Her eyes are so beautiful that fishes and lotuses have a terrible inferiority complex before her unparalleled grandeur. The goddess benevolence bestows liberation to sadhakas by controlling their breathing and the use of Ida, Pingala Nadi and also the Sushumna for the purpose. The use of the nadis are also associated with one’s emotions, says Sri Shankaracharya.

Soundarya Lahari Homam will be performed as a special ritual as part of Vedicfolks Signature Ritual series. Paying tributes to the universal goddess Adi Shakti through Soundarya Lahari pleases Her to a great extent, gives blessings of success, good fortune, luck and prosperity.
