Sudarshana Jayanthi is the day when the divine wheel manifested. The day is also celebrated as Shukla Paksha Ashada Dasami by certain Vaishnava sects. Rituals like Sudarshana Homam, Nara Narayana Homam and Narada Homam on Sudarshana Jayanthi helps to cure various illnesses and pandemics. Nara Narayana Homam and Narada Homam will be performed as part of the third and fourth Chaturvimshatihi Series of Homam that reveres the 24 avatars of Lord Vishnu, the universal lord of sustenance, whose benevolent blessings ensure devotees are replenished with wealth, good health and prosperity.

Lord Sudarshana is a manifestation of Maha Vishnu, the eternal, transcendental self of every human being. He is known for his exceptional qualities such as knowledge, great energy, strength, lordship, vigour, and splendor. His very form is so magical having a dark blue complexion and wielding dazzling, mighty spiritual emblems of divinity such as a club, conch shell, chakra (disc) also called Sudarshan, and a lotus.
It is said that Sudarshan Chakra has emerged from pure flames of the Sun and hence the Yantra represents a revolving wheel of sacred flame that keeps all negativity, illness, misfortune, and miseries at bay. The chakra is believed to be 100 times more powerful than the radiance of the sun.
Maha Sudharshana Homam teaches a person to lead a life rightly and shows the path of light from the darkness. Nara and Narayana are the twin incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The ancient Vedic text, Bhagavatam has described the historical role played by the avatar gods in spreading religious and philosophical messages across the country. They were born as rishis and lived in Badri Mountain, which is a famous pilgrimage center. They immersed themselves in deep penance and were inseparable. Lord Shiva, to test them, once used his most destructive weapon, the Pashupatastra at them. But the weapon lost its power when it reached the twin lords and Lord Shiva realized that they were in the highest state of samadhi.
It's believed that Nara and Narayana are meditating in the Badrinath region to date for the welfare of humanity. One can see the statues of the lords near the Badrinath temple. In this avatar, the lord proved the importance of penance, or hard labor in the present situations, and nothing in this world can be achieved without it. Nara and Narayana are said to be later born as Arjuna and Krishna.

Pundarikakshan Perumal Temple, also known as Thiruvellarai is situated in Tamil Nadu near Tiruchirapalli. The main deity of the temple is Lord Vishnu who’s worshipped as Pundarikakshan and the Goddess Lakshmi is known as Pankajavalli. The temple sits atop a small rock mountain which is white in colour, and hence the name Vella Parai or Vellarai or Thiruvellarai. An ardent devotee of the Lord Vishnu Pundarikan, established a garden in the area and worshipped the lord with Tulsi leaves grown here. Pleased with him, the Lord appeared before him and from then, he came to be known as Pundarikaksham. Once, the lord appeared before Goddess Lakshmi, who performed deep penance, in the form of Sengamalakannan or Thamarai Kannan meaning the lotus-eyed one. It’s believed that Lord Shiva worshipped Pundarikakshan in the temple to absolve himself of the sin that befell him after chopping off Lord Brahma’s head.
