Bherunda Nitya Removes Unnecessary Burdens,
Gives Strength and Intellect

Tithi Nityas are deities of the 16 Tithis or the phases of the moon. Vedic Shastras like Lakitopakhyanam, Dakshinamurthy Samhita, Vasistha Samhita, Tantraraja Tantra, etc., explain that the Moon has 16 kalas or phases out of which 15 are visible and the 16th is beyond the visibility of the common man. These 16 kalas are ruled by the 16 Nitya Devis or Shodasa Nityas.

Goddess Bherunda Nitya is the ruler of Chaturthi Tithi, the fourth lunar day, which also relates to Planet Mercury. She’s the fourth Nitya, has three eyes and eight arms, and Her body shines like molten gold, and the deity wears attractive jewellery.

She purifies her worshippers to make them stronger by testing them with challenges. She inspires a person to use the power of intellect and think out of the box, beyond the limitations of the mind. She lets go of unnecessary burdens and supports fasting and meditation.

According to Tantraraja, the Bherunda mantra is as follows: -

Aiṃ Hrīṃ Śrīṃ Im Om Krom Bhrom Kraum Jhmraum
Cchraum Jraum Svāhā Im Bherunda Nityā
ŚrīPadukam Pujayami Tarpayami Namah│

The Dakshinamurti Samhita describes Her yantra as triangular, with eight petals, and Bhupura, the outermost circle of the Sri Chakra. Goddesses Shikhini, Nilakanthi, and Raudri reside in the triangle. Goddess Bherunda rules the vetalas, which are evil spirits that inhabit corpses.
