Bhagavad Gita or the Song of God, is one of the greatest gifts that Lord Krishna has offered to mankind. The lord during the course of His most enlightening and historical talk with Arjuna revealed profound, sublime and soul-stirring spiritual truths and explained the rare secrets of Yoga, Vedanta, Bhakti and Karma. All the teachings of Lord Krishna were subsequently recorded as the Bhagavand Gita by Saint Vyasa for the benefit of humanity at large. Saint Vyasa presented this devout nectar to humanity for the guidance of their daily conduct of life, spiritual elevation and self-realisation. The great epic is part of Mahabharata and consists of 18 chapters and 700 shlokas.
The 18 chapters of Bhagavad Gita:
The above chapters have the answers to all problems. Lord Krishna has spoken directly in the verses and told the Pandava warrior prince to do his duty, the true nature of the soul, the right path to action, the meaning of the universe and God.
Bhagavad Gita Japa and Homam will be performed on the auspicious day of Mokshada Ekadashi, which is also called Gita Jayanti. Also, the ritulas of japa and homam will be performed for a few selected verses. It was on the day of Mokshada ekadashi that Sri Krishna, an incarnation of Maha Vishnu gave Arjuna the Bhagavad Gita before the Kurukshetra battle took place. On this day, the lord bestows his grace and mercy upon his people. He also, in one of his advises, told Arjuna that a devotee who fasts on this day is equal to Chintamani, a precious gem that grants all desires, and it would fetch great merits for sadakas. It also liberates (moksha) ancestors and they bless their descendant with peace and happiness.
Lord Krishna’s advice to Arjuna is just not for him alone but for the entire mankind. In this fast paced world, people face a lot of hurdles to fulfill vows, perform austerities and penances, and also people are not charitably disposed or reciting the verses, therefore invoking the verses of Bhagavad Gita helps a person to surpass the study of all Vedic literature. The study of the Vedas, Puranans and Itihasas are completed in all respects if one follows this one divine literature.
Bhagavad Gita Japa and Homam provides freedom from fear and sorrows. The ceremonies clears sins of past births and destroys Samsaramala – the dirt that sticks to a person by living in this world. It demolishes negative effects, strengthens weak planets and instills discipline. The ritual brings to life the entire essence of human life and calms the mind. Taking part in ceremonies of this divine literature one can attain great knowledge. If a person’s mind is disturbed, then the rituals give peace and solace. The ritual also gives a devotee spiritual advancement and ecstasy beyond the means of material nature. The japa and homam to the Bhagavad Gita purifies senses and keeps away from bad effects of karma. It’s a means to attract positive energies that keeps a person highly charged and full of life. The Homam rewards with fulfillment of wishes, bestows wealth, achievements, prosperity, name and fame. The very auspicious ritual shows the path to attain Vishnu padam or the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu.
