Kala Bhairava manifested in eight forms Ashta Bhairava which are eight avatars of Kalabhairava. They control the eight directions of the universe and each of them has eight other Bhairavas under them.
The Ashta Bhairava forms are as follows:-
Asithanga: Direction-East.
Worship this Bhairava who gives creative ability.
Unmatha: Direction-West.
Controls ego and harmful self-talk.
Bheeshana: Direction-North.
Obliterates evil spirits and negativity.
Chanda: Direction-South.
Curtails competition and rivals and gives incredible energy.
Krodha: Direction-Southwest.
This deity gives the power to take major decisions.
Ruru: Direction-Southeast.
Divine teacher.
Kapaala: Direction-Northwest.
Ends all unproductive work and action.
Samhaara: Direction-Northeast.

Lord Bhairava epitomizes destruction and there are 64 Bhairavas to whom the ceremonies of the day are dedicated. Ashta Bhairava or Ashtashtaka Bhairava means 8×8 = 64 Bhairavas. Maha Kala Bhairava is the leader of all and will be the major deity of the day.
The Ashta Bhairavas represent the ‘Pancha Bhootas’ or the five physical elements namely sky, fire, water, air, earth and sun, moon and atma (soul). They travel on different animal vehicles, while Kala Bhairava's vahana is a dog.

The Sattainathar Temple is located in Sirkazhi, near Chidambaram. The lord of the temple is self-manifested known by names such as Sri Bhrampureeswarar, Sri Thoniappar and Sri Sattainathar. His consort is Sri Periyanayagi. Lord Shiva axed the pride of Brahma who thought he was the most powerful, and hence came to be known as Brahmapureeswarar. An ancient architecture splendor, the temple has a maximum of 71 Thevara hymns sung in praise of the lord by musical saints Sambandar, Sundarar and Manickavasagar. This holy land has many stories to tell such as Sambandar being fed by the goddess with her wisdom milk when he was a child. Lord Shiva graces in the form of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The Bhairava of this temple is considered equivalent to Kasi. Therefore, special pujas are performed on the New Moon and Full Moon days, and also Ashtami days. As Lord Shiva is said to be the maker of all laws, he’s called Sattainathar. The lord and his consort fulfill all wishes of devotees.
