Hariyali Teej is a popular festival in the northern parts of India that celebrates the spirit of monsoon when there’s lush greenery all around – Hariyali. Married and unmarried women take part in the rituals with great enthusiasm as they pray to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for the long life of their spouses and better marriage prospects respectively. The ceremonies of Teej also help to strengthen the relationship between married couples and bring family bonding closer than ever. It’s believed that Goddess Parvati attained Lord Shiva as her consort after seven births of penance on this day. Lord Shiva was chaste until then after the death of his first wife, Goddess Sati who later incarnated as Mother Parvati.
Goddess Adi Para Shakti Jagadambika is Purna Prakriti or Vishweshwari, Vedgarbha who is the supreme mother of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Lord Vishnu describes her as Vidhatri, a pure form that illuminates the whole world. Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are in Aavirbhaav (birth) and Tirobhaav (death) and only the mother is immortal and lives forever. She is Jagatjanani, the mother of the universe, the Supreme Brahman, Prakriti, and Sanatani (eternal).
Adi Para Shakti means the primordial power or highest energy or transcendental force. Her power knows no limitations. The goddess divides herself into nine forms each one has unique characteristics and traits. But what unites them all are truth and purity. She also manifests as Mother Durga, Goddess Parvati, Goddess Lakshmi, and Goddess Kali.
The Bhagavata Mahapurana describes that the goddess is the original creator, observer, and destroyer of the entire universe. Her powers are beyond the universe, and she protects her beings like a biological mother would.
Invoking the goddess aids in better concentration, and self-confidence, helping to achieve goals and aspirations in the quickest possible way. Her mantra chanting dispels negative energies from the surroundings, gives blessings of career advancements and removes sorrows, stress, and nervous breakdowns.
