Sarabeswarar is an avatar of Lord Shiva an alienate creature, is part lion and part bird, with 8 legs, 4 hands, 2 wings, sharp tooth and nails look ferocious and huge, which has infinite power incomparable, which has the capability of crossing a valley in one leap, took this form to calm down the ferocious Lord Narasimha, a man-lion form of Lord Vishnu, who killed Hiranyakashyapu.
Lord Narasimha after killing Hirankashyap went out of consciousness and creating horror and destruction. Gods and Devas, out of fear and panic, the three worlds trembled. Devas and Gods approached Lord Shiva to save the world from the destruction and aggression of Lord Narasimha. Lord Shiva have sent Virabhadra, another form of Lord Shiva, to cool Lord Narasimha as he has endured most terrible god of all universe and has plenty of experience in handling ferocious forms.
Lord Virabhadra was asked to pacify Lord Narasimha, to withdraw his terrible form and calm down. But Lord Narasimha did not listen to the words of Lord Virabhadra, try to intercept with a roar. But Lord Virabhadra turned into Lord Sarbeswarar, frightened Lord Narasimha with his powers in a most terrible form. Lord Narasimha got shocked and stunned out of fear of death, seeing the humongous form of Lord Sarabeswara and Lord Narasimha ego power, took to a back seat with his anger. Lord Narasimha requested Lord Sarabeswarar to forgive him and started praising the personification of Lord Sarabeswarar. Finally Lord Narasimha was defeated and went powerless before Lord Sarabeswarar and attained "Brahmarandhra", where the breath finally dies away, coming to an end, to rest in peace.
