Ashta Bhairava is the eight forms of Lord Kalabhairava. There are eight manifestations of Maha Bhairavars who controls the eight directions of this world. Every Bhairavar has eight sub Bhairavars under them. The greater part of the Bhairavars are led and controlled by one Maha Swarna Kala Bhairavar, who is the preeminent leader of time of this universe. Lord Bhairava favors the world together with his vahana (vehicle) "The Dog".

The ashta Bhairavas are identified with the ashta Mathas (Ashta Matrika’s) Brahmani, Maheswari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Kaumari, Indrani, Narasimhi, Chamundi.

This Maha Havan goes for two days with 10 priest the first day will be full of japa (1,25,000 Ahurthis) and the next day will be the fire ritual for eight forms of Kalabhairava’s and for the Special occasion of Kalashtami the same Maha ritual takes place continuously on the same day with japa and fire ritual.
