Significance of the Pancha Kedar
The history of Panch Kedar relates to Pandava regime, the karmic heroic of Mahabharata, an epic text. Pandavas has killed Kauravas, in the Kurukshetra war. To clean the sins committed from killing of Dhritrashtras's sons, half-brothers and the priest class "Brahmins", during Kurukshetra war, had led them and decided to hand over the kingdom to their kith and kin and went in search of Lord Shiva in the Himalaya region to relieve from the fratricide and Brahmanahatya impacts and to seek his protection.
Lord Shiva to teach a lesson to Pandavas, went under the ground, to appear later in different body parts. The body parts are described in relation to seven chakras. The hump consecrated in Kedarnath, arms in Tunganath, the Navel and Stomach risen in Madhyamaheshwar, face at Rudranath, and the hair and head in Kalpeshwar, Fore portion of Lord Shiva is believed to be at Doleshwor Mahadeva Temple, Nepal . Lord Shiva finally appeared in five different forms and Pandavas. To sync the amalgamation of different body parts, one has to worship all the five divine forms of Lord Shiva and thus Pandavas has built temples at five different places, for invoking the blessings of Lord Shiva to free from their sins.
