Chapter 9

In Bhagavad Gita Chapter 9, Krishna tells Arjuna that he wishes to share a deep secret that contains the knowledge that frees one from delusion. Everything is this world is pervaded by Him in the form of the unseen God; all objects subsist in Him but He transcends all. At the end of a cosmic cycle Krishna dissolves the world, and at the beginning of a cycle He manifests it once again. This is his power of Prakriti (manifested nature) that sends forth again and again those who are still under the influence of maya. Those oblivious of God’s transcendent nature, and of the divine’s presence within the human form, find all their pursuits futile and without meaning. However the wise soul remains constantly absorbed and devoted to Krishna, and worship Him in many forms. Krishna explains how he pervades existence: He is the sacrifice, the offering, the sacred fire, and the sacred mantras. He is the father, mother, the ancestors, and the upholder of the world. He is the sound of Om and the different Vedic texts. He is the refuge and friend, He is the origin and end, as well as their imperishable aspects.
Whatever is offered to Krishna with devotion---whether a leaf, flower, fruit, or water---is gladly accepted. Whatever action is performed, should be performed as an offering to God. Through this offering the effects of karma will not be able to bind one and freedom will be found. Krishna is impartial, even an evil-doer who begins to worship Him will become righteous. Surrendering to Krishna, all can achieve liberation, regardless of social status. Let the mind be devoted and absorbed in Him, and keeping Him as your highest goal, He shall be attained.
