Chapter 16

In Bhagavad Gita Chapter 16, Lord Krishna lists the qualities of godly men and those with demoniac nature. While the former exhibit fearlessness, austerity, simplicity, freedom from anger, modesty, vigour, forgiveness, fortitude etc., the latter show pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance. There is no truth, cleanliness or proper behaviour in them. Therefore, their anxiety increases until the end of their life. Owing to desire, lust and anger, these demoniacs amass illegal money to gratify themselves. Even if these indulge in charity and sacrifices, they are actually deluded by ignorance and fall down into hell. The ungodly men can never reach Him and gradually sink down to the most abominable type of existence. There are three gates leading to hell—lust, anger and greed and every sane man should give up these as they lead to the degradation of the soul. One should follow the scriptures and know its rules and regulations in order to gradually be elevated.
