Goddess Kali and her twelve aspects, Dwadasa Kali have found mention in the fourth Ahnika of Tantraloka written by Abhinavagupta, a philosopher, mystic and aesthetician. He says their function of srsti (creation), destruction (samhara) and fourth state of consciousness (anakhya) occurred within the main objectives of prameya (objective) cognitive (pramana) and subjective (pramatr) conciousnesss. Sthitinasa Kali is that aspect that withdraws the objective world into her. She ends her external form that comes to rest within her. She has known the world of beings and matter. She has been there and done that – the job of Sthitinasa or maintenance. Sthitinasa Kali is the goddess of black power and knowledge. She eliminates fear of blackness, destroys adversaries and gives wisdom.
