The ancient Vedic literature Cidg Gana Chandrika by Kalidas mentions the manifestation of Srishti Kali. She is one of the forms the Srishti of Bhava which means the imaginative recreation. One of Her weapons are Vrtti Chakra and she is the supreme force or manifestation of Srishti Bhavana who creates the world of emotion. Goddess Srishti Kali is the mother of all creation, she is with everyone from the time of birth and even before being just souls, and a person cannot separate himself from the deity. She is a Mother – a protector who comes to the rescue in times of trouble and hardships. Worshipping Maha Kali means worshipping power itself. She was worshipped in the past, in the present and will be looked upon in the future.

Goddess Srishti Kali when desires creation, covers Herself with Maya and becomes ecstatic – Vikarini – giving rise to various things. The five elements and the 108 lingams manifest, Brahma and the other Devas, the three worlds - Bhur-Bhuvah-Svah also come into being. All creations including Lord Brahma, are born from her being, dividing and blending the various mantras, tantras and kulas which also manifest. Since all creation manifests from Her, she is Srishti Kali from whose two drops of sweat Brahma and Vishnu emerged.

Goddess Maha Kali is the symbol of dissolution, and destruction. She destroys ignorance, maintains world order and blesses and frees those who strive for spiritual knowledge.

According to Vedic texts, there are 12 avatars of Goddess Maha Kali – Dwadasha Maha Kali when venerated confer special and essential boons to devotees. In the first of the series, Srishti Kali Homam will be performed on the auspicious day of Shardiya Navratri Sandhi Puja which is observed at the juncture when Ashtami Tithi ends and Navami Tithi starts. It is said that Devi Chamunda appeared during this time to kill demons Chanda and Munda.
