Soundarya Lahari Highlights Shakti’s Both Extrinsic Beauty & Intrinsic Divine Powers

Soundarya Lahari is a powerful divine prayer composed by Adi Shankara to express his devotion, faith and beauty of the supreme force, Goddess Lalitha. She is a personification of true Brahman. The beautiful goddess is worshipped by using mystical diagrams, the yantra and powerful mantras and rituals. Soundarya Lahari is a very significant hymn of 103 verses divided into Ananda Lahari and Soundarya Lahari that is recited following the system of Sri Vidya sadhana. Each and every verse or shloka is extremely powerful as it has profound tantric meanings and influence on the practitioner. Each shloka has its own yantra or mystical diagram in which the powers of the Goddess Lalitha are invoked by a well-versed priest.

Also, a specific method of chanting is followed along with offerings to please the Mother to achieve a specific goal as described in the Scriptures. The Sri Vidya method of worship follow the construction of Sri Chakra diagram, kundalini yoga and mantras that also includes a powerful 15-syllable mantra of the Mother called panchadshakshari mantra. This great work of Adi Shankara the Soundarya Lahari in itself is a form of Devi, the ultimate reality who has many attributes like beauty, power, guidance, knowledge and so on. While it delves into the extrinsic aspects of the goddess beauty, it also lays emphasis on her intrinsic special powers that are subtle and transcendental in nature.

The Sri Chakra is the divine abode of 108 presiding female deities. It represents the deities in many forms. It is described in terms of its four Srikantha (upward pointing) triangles and five downward pointing triangles called shivayuvati which conjoin and create 43 triangles. It describes her beauty and grace that are unparalleled even as the Trimurti Devis, female goddesses and great poets are unable to attain Lord Shiva like Devi does. Be it the aged, disabled or a man belonging to both sexes (transgender) can be trapped by even a side glance from Shakti. From head to foot, the Devi radiates with immense power and her abode is above the magnificent rays of Sun, Moon or Agni Kanda.

This invocation also rejuvenates and gives a new lease of life to the devotee. It cures water-related diseases like hepatitis, cholera, dysentery, etc. It also enhances the chest region for women and enables proper menstrual cycle.

Powerful Yantras Invoke the Divine Cosmic Form to Grant Specific Boons

Soundarya Lahari is no mere devotional text. It has a rich tantric symbolism as each and every verse is associated with a yantra and mantra. While invoking the divine goddess on the mandalas or geometric patterns of a yantra, our knowledgeable Vedic scholars deliver the mantras with great acumen. The divine energy is invoked on the yantra which offers great benefits to the devotee according to the wish that needs to be fulfilled. It’s just like prana prathishta (establishing life breadth) that’s performed in temples when a new idol is placed in the sanctum. It’s a process of infusing life force into matter—a kind of awakening to enable the divine cosmic energy to answer your prayers, to mitigate suffering, heal your ailments and grant boons.
