Lord Tatpurusha is one of the five faces of Pancha Brahma. The supreme consciousness and eternal Shiva manifest as a linga form from which appears five other forms on the basis of the five elements they create to sustain the world. These five forms are Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha and Ishana. They create the five elements earth, water, fire, air and space. Lord Tatpurusha represents the ascetics, the element air and emerges on the east side of the linga. The Panchakshara mantra associated with this form is the syllable ‘Va’. 'Tat' indicates Paramatma, and Purusha is the positive principle of the universe, the transcendent god that’s beyond creation. It also means Saguna-filled (good attributes) Parabrahma (supreme soul) form.
Lord Tatpurusha is a meditative form that provides abundant blessings to the world. Since He faces East direction and denotes the rising sun, he is represented in golden color with three eyes and four faces. His robes are yellow, and accompany Goddess Gayatri. He is also the protector of all living beings. He represents the power of bliss, and also our power of focus.
Lord Tatpurusha, the cosmic being is the cosmic egg called Hiranyagarbha, the enjoyer, nourisher, and the top administrator of the cosmic sacrifice who denotes bliss or Ananda Shakti. He is the liberating knowledge, the rising sun, the material abundance (Sri Siva tattva) and among sense organs, he is the sense of smell, and in bodily organs, the anus. He is associated with ‘Thoridhana Shakti’ or the power of concealment.
The Rudra Gayathri Mantra refers to Tatpurusha form of Lord Shiva as:-
" Oṃ Tatpuruṣāya Vidmahe
Mahādevāya Dhīmahi
Tanno Rudraḥ Pracodayāt "
Meaning – We worship on the first Purush or Tatpurusaya, we meditate upon that Lord Mahadeva who is Supreme, limitless, all-knowledge, may that Rudra guide, enlighten and strengthen the organs of knowledge and action, and internal faculties.
Lord Tatpurusha is the root of Srishti, Stithi and Laya which means creation, sustenance and merging respectively. This is the basis of all strengths. It is also the fourth state of consciousness (Turiya) after Jagrat, Svapna and Sushupti. Turiya transcends all three states and it is Atman or Brahman. Also known as Maheshwara, Tatpurasha is the chief of several crores of ganas, he gives generously whatever is asked for, and acts like a balm when in distress or when a person is suffering from incurable diseases.
Lord Tatpurusha Ishvara Homam is dedicated to one of the east facing faces of Panchabrahma. The ritual reduces the negative effects of planets. It protects people who are in pain and distress and removes dosha related to child birth and marriage delays. It also protects the bodies of all forms by granting knowledge and removing fear of future birth and death. If a person is facing hurdles in his task, the ritual is a beneficial one as it gives positive results. The homam bestows a devotee with business growth, positive vibes and high knowledge. It ensures career expansion and provides success to people seeking job promotion. Focusing on this form of the lord activates the Muladhara chakra to give wisdom and decisiveness in our action which strengthens a person’s ability to find the right direction in life in order to make correct decisions.

The Kalahastheeswara Temple is one of the most ancient Shaivite temples of India. The Lord of Wind, Vayu has incarnated as Lord Shiva and is worshipped as Kalahastheeswara. Goddess Parvati is revered as Goddess Gnanaprasunambika. This renowned temple is located at Sri Kalahasti, Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh.
