Durgashtami is an auspicious day worshipping Goddess Durga and her angelic weapons, performing "Astra Puja" seeking her divine blessings. She is also called as "Mahashtami" or "Virashtami", denotes day of weapons.
It is said that Goddess Chamunda appeared from the forehead of Goddess Durga, on this bright lunar day Shukla Ashtami tithi to destroy the demons Chanda, Munda and Rakthabija, who are the associates of Demon Mahishasura. On this day worshipping 64 Yoginis (Sixty-Four) and Eight (8) Ferocious form of Goddess Durga is the ultimate of Ashta Shakti's divine power, eradicating every evil and every bad spirits, bless peace, divinity, sustain good and righteousness, in the universe.
Yogini's are sacred feminine force is an aspect of Goddess Parvati, is revered as Eight Matrikas or Sixty-Four Yoginis, who are attendants of the warrior Goddess Durga. Yoginis are the women in Yoga School Gorakshanath, the Yogi's, by tradition. The Ashta Shakti's are the incarnation of Goddess Shakti, holding similar powerful divine energy, are also called as Matrikas, the mother goddess.
