Lord Shiva has five faces namely Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha and Eshana. Aghora Shiva faces south and signifies the destructive and regenerative aspect of lord shiva. Aghora can also mean fierce-less and handsome. Basically, Aghora Gowri Pashupatham is Lord Shiva who grants blessings with his spouse Gowri or Parvati for a happy married life. Aghora Shiva can also be worshipped for destroying all negative energies that are harmful and threaten your existence. Aghora Gowri Pashupatam Homam will be performed on the auspicious day of Gowri Habba or Swarna Gowri Vratha to seek blessings of Goddess Gowri for a happy married life. The day is observed one day before Ganesh Chaturthi. The two festivals together are often referred to as Gowri Ganesh Habba. It’s believed that the goddess arrives at her parents’ home and on the next day her son Lord Ganesh takes her back to Mt. Kailash. Rituals and prayers on this day bring purification of the soul, happiness and prosperity.
