Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Homam

Power seat of Wealth Mahalakshmi Abolishes Your Money Woes & Removes Hurdles to Success and Dangerous Foes from Life

How Shakti Peethas Came Into Existence

Shakti Peethas are power houses of supreme goddess Shakti where parts of her body fell. Goddess Sati, a form of Shakti, married Lord Shiva without the consent of her father Daksha Prajapathi who despised the lord for his unkempt appearance and also for destroying his father Brahma’s fifth head in a fit of rage. Daksha organised a yagya where in he invited all the gods and demigods ignoring Lord Shiva. This angered Sati who went uninvited to question her father. In spite of Lord Shiva’s refusal to grant permission, Sati goes and gets humiliated by her father who speaks ill of her consort too. Too upset to face her lord again, she commits self-immolation and dies. Hearing the news, Shiva arrives at the spot, carries his wife’s body and performs his famous cosmic dance Tandava without end, which causes an imbalance on earth. All the gods approach Vishnu for a solution and the lord uses his Sudarshan chakra to chop off the body of Sati which splits into pieces and falls on the Indian sub continent. Shrines were built in those places which became the power seats of Shakti called Shakti Peethas.

The Bhairava connection: Bhairava is a form of Lord Shiva who is free from fear and in his honour a temple is present for every Shakti Peetha. After Shakti’s body pieces fell, Shiva travelled to the places and practiced ‘Avayava Dhyanam’ which means seeing a part and envisioning it as whole. In this meditative practice, he became a Bhairava, free from all fear, and found a place next to his consort in each and every power seat of hers. The Bhairava associated with Kolhapur Mahalakshmi is Krodishta Bhairava.

As part of Vedicfolks Signature Ritual of 2019 Sakthi Peetha Series of Homam with Bhairava Puja we begin by invoking the beautiful deity Kolhapur Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth, prosperity, fortune, power, auspiciousness and fertility.

Kolhapur Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of Spiritual and Material Wealth

Goddess Shakti’s three eyes fell at Karavira in Kolhapur in Maharashtra and she took form as Mahishamardini and the Bhairava associated is Krodisha (the angry one). She manifested as Goddess Mahalakshmi in a temple which is also called the Amba Bai temple. Here she fulfills all her devotee’s wishes and grants them spiritual and material wealth. The Kolhapur temple is also known as Dakshin Kashi because it is the perpetual home of the goddess and her consort Vishnu.
