Navaratri or nine nights is dedicated to the powerful goddess Mahashakthi in her splendid forms as Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi. During the first three nights, Goddess Durga is worshipped, during fourth, fifth and sixth, Goddess Lakshmi and finally on the last three days Mother Saraswathi is revered.
Durga is the deity of courage and strength and that’s why she symbolises energy or power. She wards off evil or negative forces with her profuse positivity. She is Lord Shiva’s consort.
Lakshmi epitomises wealth and prosperity. Wealth is not only money but also excess of knowledge, food, skills, comfort, success, good fortune etc. She represents divinity culminating in vast development. She is the consort of Lord Vishnu.
Saraswathi embodies wisdom, intellect, power of speech or knowledge. She grants creativity and her name signifies sara, essence and swa means self. She is the divine consort of Lord Brahma.
