Narasimhi is another name of Goddess Pratyangira Devi, where "Nara" denotes human and "Simha" denotes Lion. She appears with a lion face, human body is the combined power of Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva and Goddess Adi Parashakti (Parvati). Goddess Adi Parashakti appeared as Goddess Pratyangira Devi to stop the fight between Lord Sharbeswara and Gandaberunda, by roaring and terrifying these two birds, instantly stopping the fight, restoring peace in the universe and dharma. She is also called as "Bhadrakali" and "Siddilakshmi" as she is the mother of "Mantra-Mahodadhi" and other sacred text.
According to the epic Markandeya Purana and Shiva Purana, at the very beginning of Treta Yuga, Lord Narasimha is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu killed a demon king Hiranyakashiyapu ferociously, tearing his abdomen, drinking his blood as fit of rage defeating the unruly king for his cruelty and domineering. Lord Narasimha's divine anger went uncontrollable, Lord Shiva appeared in front of Lord Narasimha as Lord Sharabha , a bird-animal-human form. In this instant, Lord Narasimha created "Gandaberunda" a bird form with two headed to fight against Lord Sharabeswara. Both fought non-stop for a long time terrorizing the universe, without a solution. Goddess Adi Parashakti has to give life to Goddess Pratyangira Devi, in an Ferocious Form as "Narasimhi".
